Newry Top and Dress Sewing Pattern PDF

The Newry Tops and Dress are fun and quick sews. All views have poufy sleeves with a comfy elastic finish. The loose fit through the body leads to a peplum or gathered skirt. View A features a jewel neckline, centre front buttons, and a neck facing for a clean finish. View B adds a cute Peter Pan collar, and View C has tie closures (with an overlap to prevent accidental flashing!). The Dress (View D) features inseam pockets that are anchored into the waist to prevent flapping. It is a great beginner project and features different cup sizes for a great fit.

Fit Intent
This pattern is designed to be loose fitting and features elements specifically designed for
plus size bodies.
• The shoulder seam should hit about 1/2” (1.3cm) outside of the acromion (point of the shoulder) to allow for better sleeve hang
• The dart apexes are placed further away from the bust point than in straight sizes

Selecting your size
This pattern has different cup sizes to choose from. Because of the confusion between ready to wear bra sizing and sewing cup sizing, we have chosen to express our cup sizes as measurement-based descriptors. 2+ indicates a 2” difference between the upper bust and full bust measurement, 4+ is a 4” difference, and 6+ is a 6” difference.

Please select your size primarily based on your upper bust measurement and then choose the corresponding cup size in the shaded area of the size chart. You can blend the bust size to a different hip size, if required. If your waist measurement is larger than your hip, use your waist measurement to select the hip size.

Suggested Fabric:

This pattern is designed to be sewn with woven fabrics without stretch and is designed for use with a wide variety of light-medium weight woven fabrics. The sleeves will look best in a fabric with a bit of body. We suggest light-medium weight linen, cotton lawn, silk noil, seersucker, cotton poplin. 

As with most garment sewing, we do not recommend the use of quilting cotton

If you’re using a patterned fabric with a repeat that you’d like to match, you may need more fabric than what is suggested above.

Ensure your fabric is washed and pre-shrunk before cutting.

• 24” (60cm) lightweight fusible interfacing
• Matching all purpose thread
• 5, 1/2” (13mm) buttons for Views A and B and the Dress
• Soft 1/2” (1.3cm) elastic for sleeves (e.g. foldover elastic)
