Finished Garment Measurements:
Please select your size based primarily on your bust and hip measurement. Alterations in length can be made using the shorten/lengthen lines.Intended Fit
The intended fit of the Tarawi Shirt is very loose and relaxed. It is not fitted at the waist and does not have any waist shaping. The sleeve is a set in sleeve and is designed to fit about 1/2” (13mm) wider than the acromion (shoulder bone). The collar is designed to be a relaxed fit around the neck. If your neck is proportionally small compared to your body, you will need to use the narrow neck pieces.
Choosing your size
Please select your main size primarily based on your upper bust measurement and then choose the corresponding cup size in the shaded area of the size chart. You can blend the bust size to a different hip size, if required. Do not worry about your waist measurement unless it is larger than your hip (in which case, use this measurement to select your size).
Selecting your cup size
This pattern has different cup sizes to choose from. Because of the confusion between ready to wear bra sizing and sewing cup sizing, we have chosen to express our cup sizes as measurement-based descriptors. 2+ indicates a 2” difference between the upper bust and full bust measurement, 4+ is a 4” difference, and 6+ is a 6” difference. The “no bust” front is designed for people with no breast tissue (e.g. mastectomy or top surgery) or people who bind their chests.
Selecting your sleeve width
This pattern includes a “regular” and a “narrow” sleeve option, however both are generously cut and designed for large bodies. There is approximately 3/4” (2cm) difference between bicep measurements and the sleeve head is about 1” (2.5cm) higher in the narrow option. This difference in shaping in the narrow option achieves a blended fit for people with relatively narrow arms compared to their bodies. If you often have to do a full bicep adjustment, select the “regular sleeve” option, and if you rarely need to do an adjustment, the “narrow sleeve” is likely right for you. As always, please compare your bicep measurement with the finished measurement chart in images.
Selecting your neck width
This pattern includes a “regular” and a “narrow” neck option to reflect the neck circumference diversity in our community. The Tarawi is designed to have a generous neck fit that looks great buttoned or unbuttoned. When buttoned, the collar will not sit flush with the neck.
Suggested Fabric:
This pattern is designed for use with a wide variety of light-medium weight woven (non-stretch) fabrics. We suggest light-medium weight linen, cotton lawn, cotton shirting, silk noil, silk satin, crepe, crepe de chine, tencel, cupro, viscose/viscose blends, or rayon/rayon blends.
As with most garment sewing, we do not recommend the use of quilting cotton
